Organizations merge to become GBTA Southern Africa
Johannesburg—The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) announced that its African partner, the Institute of Travel & Meetings Southern Africa (ITMSA) has become a formal chapter and re-branded as GBTA Southern Africa.
ITMSA was awarded the contract to launch GBTA in Africa in 2012 while at the same time remaining the exclusive partner for the South Africa region. The association has implemented the first dedicated event to the energy and resource sector in Cape Town on July 3. The move by ITMSA to formally become GBTA Southern Africa will mean the new chapter will benefit from the use of GBTA’s shared services and technology to expand its operation and support the expansion of GBTA across other African territories. The ITMSA name will be replaced in the region. The board of ITMSA approved the change through a formal vote in February.
“ITMSA leadership recognized the opportunity to be at the heart of GBTA’s plans for the whole of Africa whilst expanding Southern African activity using GBTA’s products, services and resources,” said GBTA’s senior vice-president of global operations, Paul Tilstone. “It is very exciting to have helped ITMSA develop from the beginning and now to see it enter its next stage to help bring education, training and events to the African continent.”
