System to be installed for Department of National Defence at Hartlen Point, NS
OTTAWA: Raytheon Canada Ltd has won a contract to help provide technology for the Canadian Department of National Defence’s new high frequency surface wave radar system. Financial terms of the contract, announced Friday, were not revealed. The Ottawa-based company is a wholly owned unit of US defence contractor Raytheon Co.
Ratheon Canada said the radar system will be installed at Hartlen Point, NS in a demonstration project this year. Surface wave radar provides constant surveilance of ship traffic in Canada’s 200-mile exclusive nautical zone off its coastline.
Raytheon Canada is based in Ottawa and employs more than 1,500 people providing engineering services, air traffic control and other surveillance and navigation systems and precision optics.
