WINNIPEG: Heavy-duty transit bus manufacturer New Flyer Industries Inc has received an order for 100 60-foot articulated buses for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in support of their fleet renewal and customer enhancement strategies. The order for the low-floor articulated buses was placed using options from another US transit agency, and is worth US$80 million. The 67 clean-diesel buses (D60LFR) and 33 hybrid diesel-electric buses (DE60LFR) work for high-capacity, high-frequency routes.

“We are excited to grow our partnership with the Chicago Transit Authority,” said Paul Soubry, president and CEO of New Flyer. “The 60LFR series are a proven heavy-duty low-floor bus design, known for its durability and dependability, with over 4,500 delivered to more than 60 transit agencies across North America.”

New Flyer will start building the buses this year, with deliveries finished by mid-year 2013. The CTA operates 1,780 transit buses in their fleet, 1,258 of which are New Flyer buses.
