Calgary—Ideas for cost reduction and plant efficiency will be showcased at the Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference this week.

The two-day event is returning to Northlands Agricom in Edmonton. Discussions will centre around solutions for mining and in situ processes, along with regulation and the environment.

The theme of the show is ‘Optimal Outcomes’—chosen to sum up the event’s focus on succeeding in an unstable economy, and growing concern for the environment, according to organizers.

"The current economic climate has undeniably affected oil sands development in Alberta and across Canada," said Wes Scott, event director with dmg world media. "That being said, feedback from past participants indicated that we needed to gear this year’s conference towards innovative solutions to aid the recovery of our province’s most profitable industry.”

More than 500 exhibitors are expected this year, making it the largest oil sands industry event in the world, dmg reported. The trade show will feature environmental and educational pavilions, along with networking and social opportunities.
