VANCOUVER: Cummins Westport Inc has received a contract to provide its natural gas engines for use in trucks made by Navistar. The joint venture of US-based Cummins Inc and Vancouver-based Westport Innovations Inc gave few details about the contract.

“Adding Navistar completes the listing of the ISL G with all major North American truck OEMs and reaffirms Cummins Westport’s position of market leadership for natural gas engines,”  said Roe East, president of Cummins Westport.

The company’s natural gas engine was first used in the transit and waste transport markets, but it says the conventional truck market has recently shown interest. Navistar International Corp is a holding company whose subsidiaries manufacture commercial and military trucks, diesel engines, school and commercial buses and recreational vehicles.
