Executive Fleet Management Tips:
Fleet managers’ strategic questions and interview/listening skills will uncover the executive’s must-haves and nice-to-haves to ensure the vehicle meets their needs while remaining within the allowed capital cost. To make the best use of executives’ valuable time and immediately earn their trust, fleet managers need to intimately know the vehicles that fit the company’s fleet policy and guidelines (eg cap costs, fuel consumption, CO2 restrictions) and that are available to/of interest to the level of driver they are dealing with. For example, TransportAction was recently charged with identifying the vehicle that most closely matches a BMW wagon available only in Europe for an executive who is being transferred to Toronto from the Netherlands. Before committing to a vehicle allowance on a driver-owned/leased vehicle rather than a company vehicle to manage costs, fleet managers need to carefully assess the pros and cons, as an allowance provides less visibility, control and value, while taking up more of the executive’s time.
