BSM adds HoS to fleet management system

Hours of Service module will help fleets ensure compliance

TORONTO: BSM Technologies Inc, a provider of remote monitoring, fleet management, fleet diagnostics and automated vehicle security systems, has added an Hours-of-Service (HOS) module to its Sentinel fleet management solution.

According to BSM, the Hours-of-Service module uses an electronic on-board recorder (EOBR), to deliver the following key benefits:

  • Eliminates paper log-books, saving at least ten minutes-per-day per driver;
  • Automates reporting under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA);
  • Notifies drivers and fleet managers when the designated working hours are exceede;
  • Performs safety checks, including pre and post trip inspections;

“Hours-of-Service is an increasingly important issue in multiple verticals and is becoming the focus of proposed legislation in both the United States and Canada,” said Aly Rahemtulla, BSM’s president and CEO. “Our Hours-of-Service solution enables fleet managers to maintain compliance while improving their operational efficiency and driver safety.”

BSM’s Hours-of-Service module is designed to run in tandem with its Sentinel fleet management system. Sentinel captures real-time location information and telemetry data, delivering feedback to fleet managers and drivers. This includes in-cab visual alerts for speeding, harsh acceleration and harsh braking, trip reporting, fuel management, preventative maintenance, asset utilization, emergency satellite communications, crash detection and data capture for accident reconstruction.

It will be available in early November 2011 on new installations and can be added to existing ones.
