Q: What’s your educational background and work history?
I graduated from Ryerson University with an advanced certificate in purchasing. I hold the CSCMP designation (Certified Supply Chain Management Professional), from the Institute for Supply Management, the CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management) and MCIPS from The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply. I’ve worked in supply chain for Kraft Canada Inc, Cadbury Adams Canada, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Albis Plastics Inc, Sony Music Entertainment Canada, Primo Foods Limited and Thomas Meadows Customs Brokers. I’m currently materials manager for Mondelez Canada Inc, responsible for the raw ingredients for three Canadian confectionery plants.
Q: How did you get involved with supply chain management?
I began my career in supply chain at Primo, where a colleague advised me to enroll in the CSCMP. I listened and, after moving on to Sony, I enrolled. I wrote the exam, passed and received my first professional designation.
Q: What do you like most about your position?
I love that I can be entreprenurial at times. I can make a difference by speaking out and sharing my ideas, even if my ideas are outside the proverbial box. I love sharing what I do with people outside the organization, telling them how a product begins up to the delivery to our customers doorsteps. I promote our new company’s vision of “creating delicious moments of joy.” By nature of working for a snacks company, it’s a fun, joyful place to work, from the products we make to the passion we bring.
Q: Why have you chosen procurement/supply chain management as your career?
It compliments my customs and freight career. It keeps me current on global economic affairs, markets and innovative raw materials. It’s fast paced and no two days are alike. I also love the education and networking opportunities.
Q: What’s your proudest professional moment?
I earned my designation and served on the PMAC Toronto district board as president. It was a great experience serving on the board and I built long-term bonds as a result. These days, it’s my ongoing contributions within the supply chain industry.
Q: What are your future career and education plans?
I enjoy education and increase my skills and knowledge through conferences, webinars and other opportunities. I look to my associates and their strengths and seek out mentors. I’d like to complete a business and masters degree and the P. Log designation.
Q: What advice/comments would you give to others entering the field?
I was mentored through Women in Food’s mentor program by Donna Messer, of ConnectUs Communications Inc. She said: “Be aware of who you know, what you know and how you can share that knowledge.” Networking is where it’s at, whether in person, print or social media. Everyone has something they’re good at, so gather the best to help identify methods to put into practice. Find a mentor, become a mentor and pay it forward. Some people need to be uplifted from time to time, as well as uplifting others.
