Proposed move sparks controversy among legislators

The provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador is in the process of an overhaul of the rules it uses for procurement. The legislation is scheduled to make it into the province’s House of Assembly this fall.
And while proponents of the move say it will give the government more flexibility in its purchasing decisions, critics worry it will reduce transparency in the government’s buying process.
