The second annual Electronics Day opened during the SMT Hybrid Packaging 2011 Show in Nuremberg, Germany on May 4. The sustainable electronics manufacturing (SEM) working group organized the day, with experts from the electronics industry discussing sustainability in electronics manufacturing.

“We met to pose fundamental questions to key players involved in electronics manufacturing, and learn from them the key motivating factors and the rationale behind their drive to embrace greener processes,” said Sophie B. de la Giroday, president of Wise Media and the day’s organizer.

The group discussed advances in sustainable electronics manufacturing from technology and facility management standpoints. Quality, design, miniaturization and durability of electronic products and manufacturing systems were all on the agenda.

“Technology and innovation are critical to enabling and advancing this objective. The SEM Working Group’s objective is to foster collaborative work to define an industry roadmap that is focused, holistic, proactive, rational and actionable.”

The conference sessions included presentations on how technology and innovation can enable and advance sustainable electronics manufacturing.

The SEM Working Group involves industry players from all sectors who collaborate on and support change in electronics manufacturing. It invites the players of the electronics industry to voluntarily embrace sustainable measures. b2b
